(Performance with hydraulic press and saxophone)
During the concert, I used a hydraulic press for 90 minutes to compress a saxophone on stage. The piece was presented at Chateau Neuf's
main hall, in collaboration with composer and saxophonist Rolf-Erik Nystrøm, and 13 other musicians. The sounds I made from compressing
the saxophone became part of the music, and the hydraulic press my instrument. To me this created an interesting link between artistic
process and music performance.
Rolf-Erik Nystrøm initiated the collaboration based on my deconstructions of musical instruments. As a composer working with improvisation,
Nystrøm drew inspiration from ideas and visual works I made prior to the show, making them departure points for both instrumentation and
improvisation in Solo I Sol Taci. My works were presented on stage, and in the parallel exhibition the shape of sound to come.The project
was commissioned by Lillesalen Konsertserie (festival for jazz and experimental music) and Chateau Neuf in Oslo, 2015.
